Walk out into the leafy country lanes of rural Sussex from the White Barn, or from the charming house in the heart of the village, which belongs to Jane Skelton; follow the signposts up onto Lodge Hill, from where you get lovely views over the rooftops of Ditchling, towards the South Downs. At dawn on 1st May each year the Ditchling Morris dance on the top of Lodge Hill to welcome the summer. From Lodge Hill you can walk North West along the ridge towards Oldland Mill, which is an old wooden Post Mill dating from 1704. Oldlands Mill is the subject of 25 year restoration project undertaken by a group of local volunteers.
... all this within twenty minutes walk of your Sussex South Downs Bed and Breakfast cottage base!
From both South Cottage and the White Barn you can wander to the historic High Street of Ditchling, admire its ancient buildings, visit the unique museum and eat at any number of pubs and coffee shops or tea rooms. Pop into our newly revitalised deli, Chestertons, on the corner of the High Street just by the roundabout, to get the ingredients for a delicious picnic, or simply sit and enjoy the bustle as you sip your latte and eat a gooey chocolate brownie made by a local mum.

The first night we stayed in Sussex, over a decade ago - we were struck by the peace at night and the lack of light pollution. The sky over the South Downs is wide and brilliant; on midnight walks up to the Beacon you can sometimes see shooting stars. What a contrast it was to our noisy life in the city! We were hooked! Within a year we'd moved here. These Sussex South Downs Bed and Breakfast Guest Houses are each based in, or on the edge of one of the historic Downland villages or hamlets. They have their regular clients - families holidaying in Sussex, couples here for a romantic weekend break, ramblers, golfers, horse-riders and walkers, who have all fallen in love with this very special part of the Sussex South Downs. You are spoilt for choice! When looking for Sussex Accommodation remember that these Sussex South Downs guest houses provide a wonderful 'home-from-home' from which you can explore this stunning corner of Southern England.
