Horse Riding in the Sussex South Downs
Horse riding on and at the foot of the Sussex South Downs is really lovely because there is something for everyone!
There are plenty of delightful lanes for a peaceful trot or jog, as well as wide open spaces for those horses and riders who prefer something a little more exhilerating.
Until recently, the bridleway linking Ditchling village with the South Downs Way at Ditchling Beacon ended just short, leaving walkers and riders facing a dangerous 100 yard stretch on a narrow busy blind bend on the Beacon road.
However, a new bridleway was opened last year, enabling riders to gain easy access to the Ditchling Beacon from the foot of the South Downs.
Bring your own horse or contact one of these Stables or Riding Schools to find out more about horse riding on the South Downs. Horses love it and so will you! Ride up on the Downs or through the lanes and woods below.

Riding in Nye Lane at the foot of the Sussex South Downs.
The South Downs Way provides an interesting challenge for both horses and riders. Over 100 hundred miles long from Winchester in the West to the edge of Eastbourne in East Sussex, the route offers the possibility of being broken down into several interesting sections. Remember that you will need to take a folding bucket with you. You will also find that any considerable length of the route will also involve crossing busy roads.
