Alternatively, stay with Jane Skelton in this superbly modernised cottage with its oak floors and beams in a peaceful lane a few minutes walk from the centre of the village. Jane can tell you everything you need to know about the artistic heritage of Ditchling and if you feel like spending a few hours doing pottery in her workshop at Streat this can be arranged.

The White Horse
Dating from the 12th Century, the White Horse in Ditchling - now under new ownership - is being transformed into a great local pub with superb food, either in the pub itself or in the restaurant. It also offers bed and breakfast in its seven newly refurbished rooms, some en suite, which include a delightful wedding suite. The owner lives in Ditchling and takes tremendous care to ensure that he offers a really personal service.

Directions to Ditchling:



Ditchling village is about three miles from the M23/A23 Pyecombe and Hassocks junction, roughly 10 minutes north of Brighton and 25 minutes south of London Gatwick Airport.

By train, you get off at Hassocks, on the London-Gatwick-Brighton line; it is about one hour from London Victoria (or just over an hour from Kings Cross) and 10 minutes north of Brighton. If you know what time you'll arrive you can book a taxi with 'Five Star taxis' (just round the corner from Hassocks station), telephone 01273 846666.

Alternatively, if you feel a little more energetic, you can walk or cycle to Ditchling from the station.
